No. It is the 2008 rule, not a new 2026 change.

No. The rule that an impermeable driveway over five square metres to the front of a house needs planning permission, unless the water drains to a permeable area, has been in force since 2008. Some articles label it a 2026 change, but it is the same long-standing regulation. A permeable driveway of any size still needs no permission.
